Denver Restaurants and Bars Get Unique Opportunity to Stand Out – Thanks to Marijuana (Watch)

If you’re headed to a bar or restaurant in Denver anytime soon, you might be able to consume more than just food and drink.

After a ballot measure passed in the recent election, Denver became the first city to allow marijuana use at restaurants and bars. In fact, even other businesses like yoga studios and art galleries can apply to let people smoke and consume edibles at their locations.

But it’s not that simple. Businesses do have to apply for permits and they need a local business group or neighborhood to back them. And customers will need to supply their own weed, which they can only smoke outdoors. But vaping and consuming edibles would be allowed indoors.

Overall, this ballot measure provides an interesting opportunity for businesses. But it’s still something that a lot of businesses, governments and consumers are a bit wary about. In fact, the ballot measure states that the rule will expire in 2020 unless Denver City Council makes it permanent. So it’s kind of like a trial period for the city.

The Challenges of Entering a New Industry

New industries like this one offer a unique opportunity for businesses to stand out and become early adopters. But becoming an early adopter also usually comes with a lot of hoops to jump through. And that certainly seems to be the case for businesses that want to allow marijuana use at this point.
